Become a ‘Green Geek’

Geek Pty Ltd offer our customers the opportunity to be a small part of the solution to climate change, rather than a big part of the problem by choosing the ‘Green Geek’ product option.
What is ‘Green Geek’?
By choosing ‘Green Geek’ when purchasing selected computer product(s) you are nominating to offset the greenhouse gas emissions expected from their use over their average life useage.
Every time we turn on electronic equipment there is an associated greenhouse gas emission occurring at the point of power generation, unless of course your electricity is sourced from 100% certified renewable energy sources like solar and wind power.
Through partnering with Balance Carbon Pty Ltd, only government certified carbon credits will be purchased as part of the ‘Green Geek’ program to offset the emissions from the running of the computing products you have purchased.
What is a Carbon Credit?
A ‘carbon credit’ as defined by the Kyoto Protocol, certifies one metric tonne of carbon dioxide (t CO2e) either removed from the atmosphere or saved from being emitted.
All carbon credits purchased on your behalf as part of ‘Green Geek’ are certified by the Australian Greenhouse Office Greenhouse Friendly scheme or the NSW Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme (GGAS). These are the only two formally certified ‘carbon credits’ currently in Australia.
What Products are included in ‘Green Geek’ scheme?
You can select ‘Green Geek’, when purchasing one of the following Geek products:
- Laptops
- Desktops
- Servers
